A large mass in right breast found during self-exam. Swelling, itching, and pain in breast. The mass continued to grow, and right breast become enlarged to almost double the size in two-month period. CT Scan later found out that the mass was about 5cm x 4cm x 2cm. I was finally diagonsed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer.

Double Mastectomy planned in early 2009 after 5 months of Chemotherapy. Breast reconstruction in future (immediate reconstruction was discouraged due to high possibility of reccurence being IBC).

Radiation after surgery

Started Chemotherapy on September 5, 2008; Taxotere, Carboplatin, and Herceptin – originally planned for 6 rounds (every three weeks). I completed 2 rounds and then my doctor stopped(my mass grew back). Side Effects – Nausea, diahrea, extreme fatigue, bone/joint pain, hot flashes, numbing, weird taste in mouth, loss of appetite

I then did weekly Taxol and Herceptin started 10/17/08 for 6 weeks. Side effects included nausea, occasional diahea, fatigue, muscle and joint pain, neuropathy, hot flashes.

I will start 5FU, Cytoxan, & Epirubicin on 12/02/08 for 4 rounds every three week while continuing with weekly Herceptin for 12 weeks.

I will continue with Herceptin for at least 7 more months after surgery.

Thank you everyone for support and suggestion regarding my job issue. I have spoken with some people and I was told by many that what my employer did was against American Disabilities Act. So, I decided to file a complaint with State Fair Employment office. Hopefully, I will find some sense of peace and justice from this. I am still mad as heck, but I know holding onto anger too long is not a healthy thing.

As for my treatment, I talked to my oncologist and we agreed that we have to be more aggressive with my treatment. My breast mass shrunk originally with 1st chemo, but then it is coming back and has gained back the size. I am now experiencing pain and itching in my breast as I did before the chemo. What a nasty cancer!

So, my oncologist wants me to come in every week for Herceptin infusion while continuing with Taxotere and Carboplatin every three weeks. At this point, I am desperately willing to do anything to fight this nasty thing growing in my breast. I want to kick my cancer’s as* so bad. I want to be cancer free and have my life back.

Despite my frustration with current situation, I had a fun weekend. My energy level was good. I enjoyed Dim Sum (Yummy!)in China Town, walking along Santy Alley, grocery shopping in Little Tokyo, doing coffee and lunch with friends, chatting with mom and dad, and cooking and cuddling with boyfriend at home. This is what life is all about! FUN!

Yuyu,

Your weekend sounds so wonderful. I am glad to hear you enjoyed yourself doing things you love.

As for the job situation…good for you for filing a complaint. I sincerely hope you are able to find some peace & put all your energy into healing and taking care of Yuyu.

Kicking the shi* out of cancer sounds like a mighty fine plan! Hopefully this extra med you will be starting will do the trick.

You are in my thoughts & prayers.

Big hug heading your way.

Monica

I am so happy to hear about your weekend. So sweet. If the tumor is growing why not take it out? You can continue chemo after. Is that an option? Anyway I am glad you are able to do the fun things!

Kathleen

Way to go, Yuyu——your weekend sounds perfect! As awful as cancer is, it does make us appreciate the good things in life even more.
Hey, you had asked about my chemo treatment and I sent an answer by way of tagging onto one of your current posts. Hope you found it.
Enjoy!

Glad to hear your doing something about your job… and even more happy that you had a good weekend. I know that helped.. Stay strong
Cheryl

I highly recommend that you read a book called Anti Cancer – A New Way of Life by David Servan-Schreiber. He is a cancer survivor and has many stories about people that have beat cancer with a combination of chemo, but also a significant change to diet and exercise. It is very interesting. My father is recovering from colon cancer and I’m trying very hard to get him to adopt the new diet and exercise lifestyle.

You can beat this!
